Day 350- Ricky*

Ricky is brighter than average, but his grade does not show this.  Beyond being bright, he also has some major issues with handing anything and everything in on time.  I am hoping that eventually one of the conversations that we have about his effort not matching his potential will affect him in some sort of way.  If someone can provide the spark to light his fire, he is really capable of a great deal.

Ricky is also pretty quiet.  His shell is a little thicker and harder to crack than most kids.  Getting to know him and getting him to trust you both take a whole lot of effort and a whole lot of trying.  The more I talk to him, the more I discover that he is genuinely a nice kid.  With all these things in mind...

There are three doors to open between my room and the library.  Ricky rushed ahead of me to open each and every one on the way up and on the way down.  He does this quickly and quietly anytime we go anywhere.  While other kids are chattering and pushing each other and closing doors because they don't even notice that I'm around, he is rushing out of his way to be polite.  These gestures, however small, are just plain nice to see.

Thank you, Ricky*, you made my day.
