Day 15- Pajama Program and Ham Sandwich

Comfy lounge pants made my New Year's Day last year.  I was hoping to find a charity for this year that supplies comfy lounge pants to people who need them.

Pajama Program- score!  I can't believe I haven't heard of this organization before.  They combine three of my favorite things: pajamas, books, and kids.  They give the pjs and books to children in need.  It makes me smile just thinking about it.  I have many fond memories of pajamas and books from my childhood.  To be honest with you, I still make all kinds of good memories in pajamas with books!

I have a feeling that this won't be my last donation to this place.  Ready to make your first?  They even let you send a goofy e-card just for donating!  I sent Tom one with a happy puppy.  We were both thrilled :).

Well, I was hoping to write about our bowl game.  That's all I have to say about that.

My parents did have a small gathering at our house to watch the bowl game this year.  As always, we had "good eats" (at least that's why my dad calls them).  There were chips and dips and potato salad and cookies and candy and... heavenly ham sandwiches.

Heavenly Ham makes the best ham.  Period.  The glaze is just right.  When I found out that we would have one once again, I told my dad an old story I remembered.  I was working at Victoria's Secret, and I worked a ton of hours around the holidays.  I was bummed to have to go into work the day after our New Year's bowl party, and I just wanted to sit around.  I spent hours on my feet helping ladies who believed that everything should be on sale or wanted things in sizes we didn't have... you know, retail stuff.  I went into the back room to scarf down my lunch before I was sent back to the wolves, and there it was.

I opened the fridge, heard angels singing, and saw a golden glow surrounding it-- my perfect ham sandwich.  It was heavenly ham, of course, on marble rye bread with kicked up horseradish mustard and a slice of sharp cheddar.  My coworker ran back to grab something while I was eating, took one look at the mustard smeared all over my face, and said, "Wow, now that's a sandwich!"  I agreed with her through my marble rye.

After hearing this story, my dad made sure to purchase a special little loaf of marble rye when he got the ham.  The horseradish mustard and cheddar cheese were also waiting on the table to make friends with my ham.  I recreated that beautiful sandwich, and it was just as good as I remembered.

Thank you, ham sandwich, you made my day.
